Scottish Country Dance Weekend
|
Welcome to the 13th Budapest Scottish Country Dance Weekend Course and Ball,
which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the RSCDS.
We (and you) are extremely lucky that we will have high quality dance music,
professional teaching and we are going to dance in the city centre,
in a special gym hall taking up two levels and having natural light through the roof of the
building
in the prestigious Piarist Centre.
Its renovation was awarded with a special European architectural prize.

16:00 - 17:00 | Short concert by Judith and Ian Muir at Nádor Hall (start of the tourist programme) |
Ian and Judith both started playing at an early age for country
dancing. Having served his apprenticeship in McBain's band, Ian formed
Craigellachie in 1986. After playing in a family band, and briefly
joining Craigellachie in the late 1980s, Judith co-formed Sound
Company, and on its retirement in 2003 she re-joined Craigellachie.
Both Ian and Judith have considerable experience playing for classes,
weekend, Summer and Winter Schools both here and abroad. In November
2014 Ian was appointed the Music Director of the RSCDS, a term he held
for six years. In their spare time Judith enjoys card and
candle-making, is involved in barn owl conservation and is a volunteer
on the Rose of Hungerford, a local canal boat, and Ian is a beekeeper
and a budding pastel artist.
I started dancing in Paris when I was 15 in a group which became a few
years later the Paris Branch. I first attended the RSCDS summer school in
1988 and it was a revelation: the good mixture of fun, technique and social
activities. I have been teaching since I was 21 years old, first in Lyon
during my studies, then in Paris. I passed my teaching certificate in 2009.
Since then, I have taught at RSCDS Summer School at St Andrews, and several
weekends and schools in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand,
where I met wonderful people in the Scottish dancing scene. I currently
dance and teach at the Paris Branch, in France, and look forward to
teaching at the International weekend in Budapest in 2023.

In previous years we have organised tourist programs outside Budapest but this year we would like to discover more of Budapest and surroundings.
It is not really possible to make a fully costed plan for everything beforehand as prices are going up so fast. We would base the schedule on the number and interests of those who would like to stay on after the dance weekend (thank you for completing the items in the registration form, it is very helpful).
One thing is sure. Judith and Ian have accepted to give a short concert in Nádor Hall, one of the most beautifully designed concert halls of Budapest, which has the largest stained-glass window assembly in Hungary. So on Sunday afternoon after the dance weekend is over we will start the tourist program by a visit to Nádor Hall, an Art Nouveau concert hall. Everybody is welcome who is still in Budapest at the time of the visit and concert: 16:00 . 17:00, 24th September 2023.
